Every great prank starts with a little imagination… and mine started with the kitchen.
My wife loves spooky movies — as long as they stay on the screen. So naturally, I thought: what if I brought the horror home? The kitchen, where she feels most safe and in control, became the perfect setting for a little haunted surprise.
First, I waited for the perfect evening. The lights were dim, we had just watched a scary movie, and she was in the kitchen cleaning up. I had already prepped everything earlier: Bluetooth speakers hidden behind the fridge, a small string tied to one of the cabinet doors, and a motion-activated toy that let out a chilling laugh when triggered.
It started subtle.
As she walked toward the sink, I triggered a soft tapping sound from the cabinet. She paused, glanced over, but brushed it off. A few moments later, I made the cabinet door slowly creak open behind her. This time, she turned around with a confused look. “Did you open that?” she asked.
I shook my head innocently from the living room, trying not to smile.
Then came the final move.
I activated the toy under the table — it let out a loud, eerie laugh and rolled slightly across the floor. My wife screamed, jumped back, and nearly dropped a glass. She looked at me wide-eyed, completely pale. I burst out laughing — which probably wasn’t the smartest move in that moment.
She stood frozen for a second… then narrowed her eyes. “You think you’re funny, huh?”
Let’s just say I slept with one eye open that night.
Was it a little mean? Maybe. But it was also hilarious (and yes, I recorded the whole thing). Her reaction was priceless, and now it’s one of our favorite memories — even if she’s already planning her revenge.
